Ghosts & Parallel Universes
By John Copeland

Introduction
It is well known that living beings operate because of energy. Due to Albert Einstein’s work, also well known is the fact that when dealing with thermal dynamics, energy can change, from one form to another, but it cannot be created or destroyed; this law is universally accepted. So the following article is written with this basic principle in mind. The proposed thought or theory can be taken for just that; a thought or theory.

Humans have free will to behave in a manner that is riddled with choices. These choices are good, bad, or benign, depending on the collective mores and norms the majority of society has decided on as a whole. A living body is a bio-matrix containment system. The energy that is contained in it is trapped until the “vehicle” stops working. When a human dies, the physical matter that contains the soul, energy, or spirit, no longer has the potential to function as it should. The energy, or quantum field, that makes a person or individual MUST go somewhere. That energy is free to flow to some other form. A lot of our religions have “doctrines” that apply the theory that there is a “heaven” or “hell” and the soul, spirit, or energy travels to this place when the body dies.

Some people say that humans are the only sentient possessors of a soul. Why would humans be the only conscious beings? Why can’t all living beings be sentient? It is projected by this writer that, besides humans, even dogs, cats, cows, et cetera are capable of transferring their energy to another form too because their energies can be just as strong as a human’s.

It is the intent of this writer to state a possible theory as to why ghosts appear to the living. The intent is NOT to explain the sub-topics, i.e., quantum mechanics, gravity leaks, and so on. Please keep in mind that this article is only one person’s theory, and not to be taken as fact in any stretch of the imagination. The article is not written as fiction, but only speculation by one person. This article is just a contemplation on a possible reason why ghosts exist, supposing that they do.

Quantum Fact?

Without going into the detailed theories and experiments that deal with quantum physics, it is safe to say that sub-atomic particles behave in a very paranormal manner. This can be addressed at your leisure in any school or college physics department. Quantum mechanics is a very real concept, yet not fully understood. Sub-atomic particles, like electrons, are very real. Photons and electrons (sub-atomic particles) have proof of existence because every time we turn on a light bulb we see the result. Sub-atomic particles do not behave in a completely predictable manner. If you were to study what scientists have discovered up to this point, you would see that these particles seem to “jump” from one point in space to another point with an unreasonable randomness. Through these experiments, it is proposed that due to parallel universes sub-atomic particles are free to move from one universe to another. These particles can “jump” through space and occupy any particular point in any parallel universe at any given moment. It is not understood how or why this happens, but it is observable through experiments with sub-atomic matter.

Gravity Leaks

It is clear that the attraction of an atom’s nucleus keeps its electrons orbiting…usually. It is also possible that one atom can “steal” electrons from another atom. This is seen when we observe oxidation. When one atom “steals” an electron from another atom, it is taking on some of its energy which changes the new “parent” atom which allows it to behave differently. The gravity of the atoms also change. Gravity or weight of the atoms has a lot to do with the way it behaves.

The earth is an abundant collection of atoms. There is a school of thought that says the earth’s gravity appears weak because some of it is leaking into other universes that exist parallel to ours. Gravity is strong enough to keep us, our cars, our houses, et cetera, from floating out into space, but it is not strong enough to prevent a simple magnet from sticking to a refrigerator. Theoretically the gravity that exists in this universe is shared by many parallel universes. We can presume that since gravity apparently moves freely from one universe to another, it is possible that other forms of energy can too.

As the theory of parallel universes goes, the thought is that they are side by side as sheets of pliable paper or plastic. They flow, wave, bend and bounce into one another on occasion. Their close proximity gives ample opportunities for sub-atomic particles and energy to be flung from one universe to another if the conditions are acceptable. Plainly put, the theory states that these paralleled universes occasionally bump into one another.

Suppose something as simple as barometric pressure gives the parallel universes the opportunity to alter the electromagnetic fields and cause them to bend and sway close, or possibly collide with one another at certain points. This writer infers from the study of quantum mechanics that if the pressure of one point in one universe is high and one point of another universe is low then the chance of attraction would be high.

Emotional Energy

It is the theory of this writer that when a body dies the energy that makes up the soul has a chance to move between these universes when universal conditions allow it to. If the being has a strong will, the energy stays intact. It is common to hear of ghost stories that the observed ghost appeared angry, sad, lonely, happy, or some other emotion that is naturally strong.

Think for a moment about a magnet. A magnet, no matter what size, has a north and south pole, but it also has a very, very small point right smack-dab in the middle that is neutral. Every day has a sunrise and sunset, but there are also points in the day that are twilight and dawn that are distinctly different from light or dark. Theses examples demonstrate the differences between everyone’s choices that they make with even the smallest actions. Choices are not just good or bad, black or white; they are just what seem most appropriate at the time, which may be the choice to not make a choice at all.

Emotion requires will. No one can force another person to experience an emotion. It is the choice of the individual to feel emotions in response to a stimulus. It could be possible that this energy remains cohesive due to a strong emotion and will of the spirit. Free will is something that gives living beings a uniqueness all their own. Life is about choices, and it is natural to assume that in death the remaining energy would have the same opportunity to decide between good, bad or benign choices.

Conclusion

The following is a scenario or hypothesis of the creation of a ghost with all of the aforementioned points in mind:

1. A living body dies for some reason while in a high emotional state.
2. The energy of this being is free to flow from its body.
3. This energy is no longer bound by the conventional boundaries of this universe’s gravitational constraints but remains cohesive due to the nature of will.
4. The cohesive energy follows the path that seems most appropriate, familiar or most desirable.
5. This one cohesive spirit chooses to stay close to what was most familiar but has the ability to flow from one universe to any one that is parallel.
6. When conditions are optimal, this spirit has the opportunity to interact with this universe’s physical matter in a way that affords living beings to observe the interaction without the constraints of the space, time and physical laws of this universe.

Above is a very simplified scenario, but demonstrates the “meat and potatoes” approach for explanation.

While none of this is provable, it is a theory. The readers of this article are invited to debate these points with the writer for any thoughts that will solidify or discredit the points completely.

It may seem a little scary to think that someone’s energy is free to flow wherever it wants to, but it is, I would assume, bound by some laws that we may not be aware of. Personally, I would hope that is where a Supreme Being comes in. The thought of billions of people’s energies flowing willy-nilly around the cosmos is a bit overwhelming, but how is this concept any more overwhelming than billions of trillions of sub-atomic particles traveling the speed of light all around us right at this moment? Is it not true that any radiation can harm you if exposed for a given amount of time? Radiation is simply energy, and we do not run away when we see the awe-inspiring nature and light from the sun. We are not afraid because that is what we are accustomed to, but why would a ghost be any more alarming? It just does not happen with a predictable pattern, so people usually fear it.

Some day there will be a scientific explanation for why we see ghosts and maybe then we will all find the event as breathtaking as a lightning storm or a sun rise.
