Guthrie, Oklahoma

History

The Guthrie Train Station has a lot of history behind it. Built before statehood, Guthrie was a result of the Oklahoma Land Run and over a period of a few short years, Guthrie exploded in population and size. Guthrie even became the state capital of Oklahoma before the seal was moved to Oklahoma City.
Guthrie was a popular stop on the way to western Oklahoma, so a train depot was built in the town with a restaurant and a full staff of “Harvey Girls.” These girls were employed to carry out all the important operational tasks of maintaining the train station as well as working in the 24-hour restaurant. These girls lived under very strict rules, and would usually work at more than one train depot on their way out west.

Today the train depot is used for party receptions, historical tours, and a model train museum. The entire complex is under renovation currently, and donations are greatly appreciated. You can visit the Guthrie Train Depot website at http://www.theoldsantafedepotofguthrie.com.

Investigation-Train Depot

M.I.S.T. team members present: Lindsey, Dewayne, Robyn, Michael, Shelby
OKCGC team members present: Logan

C.O.P.S. met up with M.I.S.T. and Logan at the train depot for a thorough investigation of the depot and the train cars. After C.O.P.S. was introduced to M.I.S.T., everyone decided to do a sit-down in the second story of the depot.

On the second floor, there are four rooms, two on either side of the depot building. These were the Harvey Girl rooms, where the girls slept and lived. It is believed in these rooms are one of the more active part of the depot building itself.

MIST and Logan took one corner room while COPS took the opposite corner room. MIST conducted most of the IRCs and EVP questions, while everyone else listened. A knock test was administered. After the knock test, faint scratching noises were heard, but the source could not be found. Afterwards, MIST asked if COPS would like to ask any questions. COPS carried on the EVP session with another knock test with no response. The teams stayed on the second floor for about 20 minutes when everyone decided to head back down to the first floor to warm up.

Before Logan, Robyn, and Michael had to leave for the evening, Logan showed COPS the basement area of the depot building. This area has claimed paranormal activity as well. COPS then took baseline readings, and started another set of EVP and IRCs. Once lights out, the entire team was in complete darkness. All members heard another faint scratching sound, but nothing else responded to COPS being in the basement. After another twenty minutes of being in the basement, COPS decided to head back up to the first floor and met back up with Lindsey and Dewayne. Everyone decided to head to the blue train cars next.

Investigation-Train Cars

C.O.P.S. team members present: Tony, Russell, Michael, Stephanie, Conrad
M.I.S.T. team members present: Lindsey, Shelby

Both teams headed to the Blue cars for IRC’s and EVP. The team started sweeping the cars, starting in the bar car and continuing through the dinner car, the kitchen car, and ending at the boiler car. At this point, C.O.P.S. began asking standard EVP questions when everyone heard a knock come from the bar car area. The team decided to head into the diner car and continue with IRC’s and EVP. Several questions were asked and a knock test was conducted with no response. Tony and Russell were standing at the far end of the diner car closest to the kitchen car when Tony reported seeing shadows moving near the boiler car. Everyone looked towards the boiler car for several minutes, but no shadows were seen. Michael continued on with EVP after a few moments, Lindsey and Shelby heard something from the bar car, so everyone headed into the bar car.

Once everyone settled into the bar car, Michael from COPS continued on with EVP and a knock test. A faint knock was heard from the knock test, but not everyone heard it. Tony reported seeing more shadows from the boiler car and took pictures, but no light anomalies were captured on film. After a few more minutes in the 25 degree temperature train cars, the group decided to head back into the depot to warm up and call it a night. The bar car as well as the boiler car in C.O.P.S.’s experience has been the most active, but because nothing has been recorded or collected, is still listed as inconclusive.

Investigation-Mercantile Building

C.O.P.S. team members present: Tony, Russell, Michael, Stephanie, Conrad
P.R.O.S. team members present: Ron, Therin, Kristine, Gary, Sarah

PROS invited COPS out to investigate the mercantile building located on the Guthrie Train Depot property.  This two-story building has been reported of housing the most paranormal activity of all the properties.  The building was built in the late 19th century and was primarily used as a general store for anyone who needed to buy food to supplies for their farm.  The basement housed Chinese railroad workers during the construction of the Santa Fe Railroad line.  Today the building is used for storage, but is planned for renovation and is also operated as a long-term research site by Ron with PROS investigations.

COPS gathered all of their equipment and headed inside the mercantile.  They decided to start upstairs where most of the activity has occurred in the past.  The team sat around the perimeter of the second floor and Michael began the EVP questions.  After a few questions, he initiated a knock test resulting in no response.  At this point, PROS radioed the COPS team upstairs to let them know they were entering the building.  COPS finished with the EVP questions, and let PROS conduct their IRC's on the first floor while COPS remained stationary to monitor any activity on the second floor.

The PROS team began sweeping the first floor and as they entered the north room, the members described a warmth spot in the middle of the room.  Later when Conrad went down to the first floor, he described the same warmth feeling without anyone from PROS alerting him of what they encountered earlier.

Afterwards, Ron And Conrad went into the basement of the mercantile to see what evidence they could capture down there.  To eliminate any chance of false positives, the rest of PROS joined COPS on the second story.  Conrad and Ron discovered a couch directly below the warm spot in the north room.  After hearing several noises from above, Gary And Michael went down into the first floor to find an explanation but found nothing.

Several members of both teams heard what sounded like a group of girls whispering or talking very quickly.  Everyone assumed it was Sara and Christine, the only females present, talking with each other.  But when confronted about it, both stated neither of them had talked once.

While Russell was sitting on the second floor, he reported hearing what sounded like a clock ticking.  There were several boxes next to him filled with model cars and trains, so he attributed the sound to that of a stored clock.  But when the box marked `clock' was opened, no clock was inside.  It turned out to be water dripping from the gutter outside the window, thus echoing inside the second story.

Afterwards, everyone packed up and headed over to the Fairfield Building.  Ron stayed behind to monitor any activity in the mercantile.  About the time the rest of the teams reached the Fairfield, Ron radioed to get someone over to the mercantile with some equipment.  Gary went back over to meet Ron while the rest of COPS and PROS investigated the Fairfield Building.

Once the teams were through with the Fairfield building, everyone returned to the north room in the mercantile for a sit-down.  The sit-down lasted for about 15-20 minutes with no response to knock tests.  Sara did feel a cold spot beginning to form around her hand when she reached out with it.  Orbs were captured and almost everyone from the team commented on seeing shadows.

The mercantile is a very interesting building with a lot of history behind it, but on this investigation, no recordable evidence was found.  COPS hopes to return to this site many more times in the future to capture al the activity that this building is known for.

Investigation-Fairfield Building

C.O.P.S. team members present: Tony, Russell, Michael, Stephanie, Conrad
P.R.O.S. team members present: Therin, Kristine, Sarah

History

The Fairfield building's history is still a little sketchy at this time, but will be updated more thoroughly soon. This building was used to store and hold any cargo or freight brought in from the trains en route to be delivered to the appropriate owners.  On the second story there is a 10-foot by 15-foot cage that could have been used to protect valuables or hold animals.  Newspapers from the late 50's are still stacked inside the building, along with an early 20th century cast iron waffle maker.  The building today is used for storage of model trains and the respective stands and tables.

Investigation
The last building of the night was opened up to PROS and COPS for the first time.  The building consists of a basement, a first floor, and a second floor, but because the elevator to the basement was inoperative, the team was only allowed to investigate the first and second levels.  Everyone started out doing the standard EMF sweeps of the first floor with no activations or hits.  After the sweep was completed, everyone took a position around the first floor and Michael began asking questions to any spirits or entities that might have been there in the building with the team.  After a knock test and no conclusive response, the team headed into the second story through an attic-type fold away staircase.  Once upstairs, everyone noticed tiny footsteps in some dust near one of the walls.  Later the team discovered it was Sarah's footsteps.

Another sweep was made of the second story and several pictures were taken.  Because of the level of dust that was stirred up once the team was on the second level, most pictures with possible orbs were ruled out as false positives.  Once everyone got a feel of the second level, the team got in position for IRCs.  Any light anomalies that could have been witnessed were dismissed because of the amount of windows on the second story and the proximity of the road in relation with the Fairfield.  Car headlights were a nightmare to deal with inside.  Several times throughout the investigation inside the Fairfield, a car door was heard slamming outside.

Michael again asked several EVP questions, and Russell asked some more, along with Sarah and Therin.  After about 20 minutes, everyone decided to head back to the mercantile for the sit-down in the north room.

The Fairfield Building is very interesting, but nothing was heard on the tape recorders and pictures were contaminated too much by the dust.  COPS hopes to return back for a second round inside the Fairfield.
