Honey Springs Battlefield Site
Muskogee County, OK
History
The Battle of Honey Springs took place during the Civil
War near Summit and Rentiesville, Oklahoma on July 17th,
1863 in the heart of Indian Territory. This encounter is
sometimes referred to as “Little Gettysburg” due to its
importance in making Oklahoma a part of the Union. The
conflict began around 10am and ended at about 2pm. The
estimate of how many people died during the fighting is
not very clear, but it is obvious that many did. Best
guess, would be fewer than 500 cumulatively. The majority
of the soldiers were not Caucasian, but were Native
American and African American. It would not be fair for
C.O.P.S. to even try to relate the true nature of what
happened during this battle, so we defer to the true
historians to tell the tale. Please visit
http://www.honeysprings.org/ and you will get more
historically accurate information.
Our investigation of this site will include the official
State of Oklahoma historical site of the Honey Springs
Battlefield as well as a private residence that is
located at the northernmost point of the Battle, also
known as the Texas Road. The owners of a home and land on
the Texas Road, Mary and Ken, asked us to investigate due
to their recurring encounter with unexplained phenomenon.
It is important to note that Mary is a long time
paranormal investigator herself, and is well versed in
what is haunted and what is not. C.O.P.S. has respect for
her wisdom and experience. We were honored to have the
opportunity to investigate her home and property.
Reports of Paranormal Activity at Mary’s Residence
• Disembodied voices
• Footstep sounds
• Unexplained noises
• Physical objects being thrown
• Activation of E.M.F. detectors
• Photographic anomalies
• Batteries being drained
• Odd feelings
• Unexplained shadows and lights
Investigation at Mary's Residence November 10th & 11th, 2007
The Central Oklahoma Paranormal Studies team was asked by
a lifelong resident and fellow paranormal investigator,
Mary, to examine the Honey Springs Battle Site which
included her home and property as well as the Oklahoma
State sanctioned battle site. The team arrived late
evening on November 9th, 2007 and was kindly invited to
stay the night with Mary and her husband, Ken. C.O.P.S.
began the investigation of Mary's home on November 10th,
2007 at 23:32 hrs. Members present during the
investigation included Mary, Tony, Russell, Joe and John.
23:37 hrs. - Mary began the interactive response communications (I.R.C.) with any entities in her home by inviting them to participate and communicate.
23:37 hrs. - A noise in the dining room was heard by all members present.
23:40 hrs. - Tony took over the I.R.C. session and performed a knock test with no response.
23:46 hrs. - All persons present heard a loud noise coming from the light fixture on the ceiling.
23:46 hrs. - An unexplained shadow appeared on bookcase and was confirmed by 3 people.
23:48 hrs. - Noise of unknown origin heard in dining room by all.
23:52 hrs. - Noise on ceiling again heard by all members
23:52 hrs. - Two times the team heard two quick taps in response to Mary mentioning the name "Michelle" and just a few seconds later an alarm goes off from Mary's phone which was not programmed to sound.
23:54 hrs. - Two members present heard a shuffling noise coming from the dining room.
23:58 hrs. - Again a noise in dining room was heard by all.
23:59 hrs. - Tapping sound from unknown origin was heard by everyone.
00:03 hrs. - Thumping sounds were heard by three members.
00:10 hrs. - An unknown noise was confirmed just prior to the K-2 EMF detector shutting itself off because the activation button was no longer depressed. Tony's hat fell off his knee which was unexplainable as well.
00:15 hrs. - An uncomfortable ringing in the ears and head pressure confirmed by two members.
00:21 hrs. - During John's I.R.C. session, his cell phone, that was turned off, was resting on his coat near the floor fell with no apparent cause.
00:24 hrs. - Noise coming from kitchen was confirmed by two members.
00:25 hrs. - The audio recorder captured a noise that was not addressed by any members present.
00:27 hrs.- A similar noise on recorder was captured but was again unannounced by any members.
00:28 hrs. - Joe performed I.R.C.s as well as a knock test but no response was heard or recorded.
00:29 hrs. - John was experiencing very hot temperatures in his area, but the thermometer did not register any rise.
00:33 hrs. - The overall temperature taken in room was 76° as an average.
00:35 hrs. - The team attempts an experiment with one of Mary's dolls by which we ask that the entities try to lower the temperature by a few degrees. The temperature of the doll drops several degrees from 75° to 69° after several minutes.
00:58 hrs. - The team decides to end the investigation, all of the equipment was packed up, and the team dispersed to go to sleep.

Investigation at the State of Oklahoma's official Battle Site November 11th, 2007
The Central Oklahoma Paranormal Studies team arrived
during the day and talked with the curator of the site at
the Information Center. The curator was very
knowledgeable of the history of the site. We were well
educated of even the smallest details that transpired
during the actual encounter of the Confederates and the
Union armies. The curator stated that at times the site
invites Civil War re-enactors to "camp" at the site. He
stated that several re-enactors had reported unusual
paranormal activity during the nights that they were
camped. After hearing that others had experienced
unexplained phenomenon, we gained permission to perform
an investigation of the site after dark and during
non-business hours. With the curator's supervision,
C.O.P.S. began the investigation of the battle site on
November 11th, 2007 at 18:41 hrs.
It was decided that our investigative equipment could be
somewhat intimidating to any possible entities that may
be there, so for the purposes of preparing for a future
expedition to this site to examine it under more
controlled conditions, we utilized our cognitive senses
only. Please note that the team had many personal
experiences that could be considered paranormal in
nature, but no correlating electronic equipment was
utilized.
Conclusion
It is strongly suggested that if anyone has any interest
in Oklahoma's history, the Honey Springs Battle Site
would be worth exploring. There are many trails to prowl.
Each trail has signs posted that gives historical
importance of each location. The grounds are well
maintained and the employees are dedicated to educating
all that show interest in the history of this site.
C.O.P.S. is proud to have had the privilege to visit this
area of Oklahoma and our heart felt appreciation goes to
Mary, Ken and the State of Oklahoma for allowing us to
examine these locations for paranormal activity. It is
our intention to return to these sites for future
analysis.
