Investigation Friday, February 16th, 2007
C.O.P.S. team members present: Tony, Russell, Michael, Lindsey, Sarah, and Jon
Fort Reno Employees Present: Jessica, Raymond
COPS
arrived at Fort Reno around 8:00 pm and unpacked equipment. The
team met with the tour guide of Fort Reno, Jessica. She told the
team about the history of the fort and what the different buildings
were used for over the years. Michael decided to split up into two
teams and investigate the Victorian House and the
guardhouse.
Team 1-Russell, Sarah, Raymond
Team 1
started out in the Victorian House located on the northwest corner
of the fort. Until the 1970’s, this house served as officers’
quarters and is currently awaiting the National Historical
Society’s approval. Individuals close to the fort hope to soon see
this house restored to its formal beauty. Unfortunately, this house
shows its age. Mild dilapidation, paint peeling off the walls and
the smell of musk in the air mar a once grand
structure.
The
team entered the building and began sweeps of the basement, first
floor, second floor, and the attic. In the second floor bathroom,
the team recorded a single EMF spike. After the sweep was
completed, the team conducted IRCs in the basement and worked
upwards finishing in the attic. No activity was noted in the house,
except in the attic. Once inside the attic, one finds themselves’
walking on a carpet of old newspapers and random debris. To any
normal individual littered newspaper may be an eyesore, but for the
paranormal investigator, it becomes a trap; a trap that worked
particularly well that evening. During an IRC session in the attic,
a few of the newspapers crunched as if someone walked on them. The
wind was blowing that night, however no one felt breezes inside the
attic and the flame of a cigarette lighter did not flicker when
held steady. Shortly thereafter, the time came for the two teams to
exchange positions. Team one gathered their gear and moved towards
the guard house.
The
guardhouse, located on the southwest corner of the fort, as its
name implies, originally housed the guards that guarded the fort
every night. Throughout Fort Reno’s history, the guardhouse also
served use as a temporary hospital and living
quarters.
Russell, Sarah, and Jessica entered
the guardhouse while Jessica told the history of the building.
Sweeps were made during this time with no EMF activations. The team
started out in the northwest room and conducted standard IRCs.
Nothing paranormal was experienced by anyone in this room. The team
made their way though the rooms into the final south room where
most of the guardhouse activity is reported. The team asked
questions and initiated a knock test; both actions yielded no
responses. Towards the end of the session, however, the door
leading into the south room moved on its own and vibrated slowly
back and forth. Another breeze check was made with a lighter and no
wind was noted to have an effect on the door. It was at this time
team 2 radioed and said it was time to move on to the Commissary
for a final sit-down.
Team 2-Tony, Michael, Jon, Lindsey, Jessica
Team 2
started out in the guardhouse and conducted the standard IRC
session. Sweeps were made of the entire building with no EMF
activations. The second team experienced no activity in the
guardhouse or the Victorian house.
Commissary Sit-Down
All
team members rendezvoused to conduct a final sit-down session in
the Commissary. This building was used as a general store and
barracks during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The building is
awaiting restoration and will soon house the Fort Reno museum. The
Commissary has had reports of little children running through the
halls and playing with visitors who venture inside.
COPS made a sweep of the first
floor and moved to the second floor where the equipment was set up.
Jon operated a handycam trained on Russell as he conducted most of
the IRC session. There were no EMF activations during the entire
sit-down and no one experienced anything out of the ordinary. The
thirty mile-an-hour winds quickly discredited any noises thought to
be of unusual origin. COPS ended their investigation near 2:00
a.m., gathered their gear and departed Fr. Reno shortly after 2:30
a.m.
